PRESS RELEASE
OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
EDO STATE GOVERNMENT
GOV OKPEBHOLO TO REVIVE ABANDONED KING’S SQUARE WATER FOUNTAIN
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has revealed plans by his administration to ensure that the abandoned multi-million naira Water Fountain at King's Square, Benin City, is revived.
Governor Okpebholo disclosed this while speaking with journalists after an inspection tour of the facility, built by the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole-led administration.
The Water Fountain, in the past, attracted thousands of fun seekers to the museum, especially during festive periods. However, for the last eight years, it has suffered total lack of maintenance.
Comrade Oshiomhole ‘s administration embarked on the project as part of Urban Renewal, but was completely abandoned by the Godwin Obaseki-led administration, leaving the multi-million naira project to rot.
Governor Okpebholo said he embarked on the inspection tour of the facility to see what could be done in order to put it back to use, for the benefit of Edo people.
“I am here to look at the state of this Water Fountain, built by the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole's administration, but abandoned by the previous administration of Godwin Obaseki.
“I remember how beautiful this place was when Oshiomhole was the Governor of Edo State. My coming here is to see how to revive it. We want to clean up this place, so that people can come here for recreation or relaxation.
“This place has been abandoned for too long now, but my administration wants to revive it so that Edo people can come here with their families to have good times during weekdays, weekends and holidays,” Governor Okpebholo added.
