We need Our Doctors More In Nigeria, Than They Are Needed In Western World –Ambassador Uhomoibhi
One of the promising aspirants for the 2024 Edo governorship election, Ambassador Dr. Marthins Uhomoibhi, in one of his responses to questions posed to him on Boss FM, 95.5 Abuja, during a Political and Current Affairs Programme, on his view about the recent delisting of Nigeria medical doctors in the United Kingdom, he responded by comically waving it off.
He said; ‘we need our doctors here in Nigeria. we need them more in Edo state, than they need them in the UK…’
‘It is laughable when I heard that some Nigerian doctors were delisted in the UK’.
Ambassador Uhomoibhi, who said he only heard the story, but its not yet clear to him what the details are, added that, Nigerian doctors and several other Nigerian professionals, are everywhere in the western world, including the United States of America, and they are making waves and excelling in their different careers, so if the UK, for whatever reason decided to delist Nigerian Doctors, they may be doing so in the interest of their country.
Ambassador Uhomoibhi, pointed out that the various Nigerian professionals that are excelling all around the world, benefitted from the Nigeria economy as Nigerians’ tax payers’ money were used in building the schools they attended, and paying the teachers and lecturers that taught them in schools; "so, why should we continue to train workforce for the rest of the world to benefit, while we are suffering for same services in Nigeria"? He asked.
Ambassador Uhomoibhi however concluded by saying; ‘all we need to do is to fix our facilities and institutions and also make remunerations attractive and competitive for them’. This, he said, will attract our doctors and other professionals back to Nigeria, and also reduce the “Jakpa” (travelling out of Nigeria) syndrome.
