Ambassador Marthins Uhomoibhi, a former Undersecretary General of the United Nations, and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and currently the President and Founder of the Pan African Institute For Global Affairs, Abuja, has revealed that, the political class shouldn’t continue to take advantage of their positions to whip up sentiments amongst the people to their advantage, saying; ‘the greatest amongst us, is one who serves, as leadership is not about self-aggrandizement, it’s not a place for feeding your pockets, it’s a place for you and others that you lead. Leadership is about service’.
The Ambassador made this point while responding to questions in a Political and Current Affairs Programme on Boss FM radio, 95.5 in Abuja on Wednesday, 12th April, 2023.
Ambassador Uhomoibhi, who said, the progress of Nigeria, lies entirely in the hands of Nigerians, added that, Nigerians must work together in whatever leadership positions that they are to make Nigeria what it really is, “The giant of Africa”.
He said; ‘…Britons built Britain, Americans built America, therefore, Nigerians must be responsible for building Nigeria’ he added that, ‘the ultimate destiny of our country rests in the hands of Nigerians as we are endowed with the resources and all it takes to build a great nation that the country is destined to be, but our challenge, is primarily Nigerians’.
Continuing, Ambassador Uhomoibhi said; ‘…we need to make up our minds to have a flawless leadership selection process that puts the best people forward. Only then will we get a first class result’.
‘…whatever leadership role that we find ourselves in, we must have our hands on deck to move the country forward’.
All Nigerians in leadership positions, he said, must fully discharge their responsibilities unapologetically as leaders, because on the last day, we will all answer to him that put us in those leadership positions.
